7K a year Job Description Responsible to provide clerical and research support services including document preparation and review, interviewing clients and witnesses, investigations, fact checking, and trial preparation.
This requires compliance with Constitutional obligations related to providing discovery to defense counsel, ensuring that all files are updated and complete, uploading and redacting police reports, running criminal records, and ensuring that the attorneys have the materials they need to perform the responsibilities of their job.
This position functions in accordance with the provisions of applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities Under the supervision of the County Attorney, this position is continuously responsible for providing administrative and clerical support to the Attorneys and the Victim Witness Services Department for the daily operations of the office.
Applicant must be detail oriented and able to work accurately in a fast-paced environment.
The office has a collegial working atmosphere, but subject matter of work is often difficult.
Preference will be given to those with prior experience in a police department, court, or prosecutor's office.
Duties may include:
General administrative duties Assist attorneys in case management Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information Files, photocopies, draft correspondence and subpoenas, emails and/or electronic filing of documents in and out.
Updates case files in Information Management System (Prosecutor by Karpel), ensuring that events and notes are appropriately entered with court dates.
Maintains accurate calendar of court hearings, both in electronic and physical form.
Assists in database management - Opens, enters, scans, and closes cases and updates their status in the computer system including witness information.
Prepares simple legal and general correspondence and documents for attorneys as requested.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Paralegal - Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities and to possess the necessary physical requirements with or without the aid of mechanical devices, to safely perform the primary functions of the job.
Ability to demonstrate a clear understanding of the Carroll County Attorneys Office, Rules of Criminal Procedure and Victim/Witness Programs principles, policies and procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the attorneys, victims, witnesses and colleagues.
Ability to express or exchange ideas verbally and in writing.
Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
Ability to prepare written materials and analyze data.
Ability to use computer keyboard requiring eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity.
Ability to plan and perform diverse duties requiring extensive knowledge of a particular field and the use of a wide range of procedures.
Ability to exercise judgment in the analysis of facts or conditions regarding individual problems or transactions to determine what actions should be taken, within the limits of standard practice.
Ability to retain confidential information pertaining to administrative and personnel issues.
Ability to work with frequent interruptions and respond appropriately to unexpected issues.
Ability to endure periods of heavy workload or excessive stress.
Requires performing regular job functions under good conditions in a safe working environment.
Requires sedentary work, including continuous sitting or occasional standing and walking.
Prior experience in criminal law is preferred.
Education or training in criminal justice is preferred, or any combination of education and experience, which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
